IN CAHOOTS

Your legs are guilty by association. You’d have legs your own age if you had friends your own age.

The brownies kick up their legs in the tarantella in the Red Shed production.

“In Cahoots is a glorious burlesque of the Brownies and the Girl Guide movement. This is total, environmental theatre; the audience sit cheek by jowl with the brownies.” Peter Goers, The Adelaide Advertiser.

“Melissa Reeves’ script is strong, witty, uncompromisingly feminist and had the entire opening night audience – which ranged from seven-year-olds to the over sixties – in stitches throughout.” Brother Sister.

In Cahoots is an anarchic, hilarious romp through the world of Girls societies, and the mixed legacy of the guiding movement started by Baden Powell, that spread like wildfire throughout the Commonwealth through the twentieth Century. The audience are invited to attend the parents and friends meeting of the local Brownie Pack, only to discover the brownies are drastically over-age. Having discovered this feminist haven at an early age, they had just stayed there, and now run their own underground guerilla organisation. Aided and abetted by their lovely but senile Brown Owl, they outmaneuver the bitter, suspicious commissioner, finally winning her over to their cause, using the skills they learnt as Brownies.
